Agora, Cyrus, Exit Through the Gift Shop, Grown Ups, This Movie is Broken, Knight and Day: there are six movies premiering this week. Next week, there’ll be five more. And the week after that. The summer movie schedule is nothing if not hard to keep up with. Did you know that there was once a time when you were lucky to get one new movie every three months? And there was only one theater? Back then, in the Dark Ages (aka the Golden Age of Film), it was actually possible to be one person and keep on top of things. Now we’ve got to perform a sort of emergency triage on Friday night when the films pour into the cinema. What to see? What’s the highest priority? Hopefully my analysis of the trailers for this week’s offerings will help you make your decision.
I don’t know about you, but I thank the movie gods every day for the existence of trailers. By watching a trailer, you can tell if a movie is going to be worth your time. It only takes a minute or two and it’s FREE. Even if it’s a minute of total torture, it’s better than 120 consecutive moments of torture that cost ten bucks.
If your crystal ball (crystal computer screen?) is malfunctioning or you just haven’t inherited the Inner Eye, tune in every Thursday and I’ll give you my predictions for each of the films opening that weekend at Empire Theaters. Each one is hand crafted with the help of my trusty cardboard ball and my vast knowledge of film. 🙂
I’m predicting you will click to read more about this week’s films, Get Him to the Greek, Harry Brown, Killers, Marmaduke, Raajneeti, and Splice.
